My ripper seems to not be connecting to Music Brainz or AMG

I have two different CDs that are listed online in Music Brainz, but the ripper is not finding them. I have all selections under Meta checked, including PerfectMeta, and I see the CDs listed in Music Brainz online, but it's not finding them (one of them, it's finding a different CD altogether), and when I press "Review PerfectMeta Matches," the AMG and Music Brainz buttons are grayed out.

I'll admit, my version is old... 14.4.0.3. But even when I click "Review PerfectMeta Matches" for very common CDs that it does find (such as Madonna's "Immaculate Collection"), the AMG and Music Brainz buttons at the top are always grayed out.

    Why is this?
