CD pressing issue or copy protect?

I've got a CD issue, which is present when ripping in CD Ripper, but also a wider issue. So apologies if this is slightly off-topic...

The CD is Gorillaz new album "The Mountain". I'm new (2 days so far!) to CD Ripper, so initially tried ripping it in Apple Music. All worked fine until the penultimate track, at which point it simply failed and ejected the CD from my USB Superdrive.

I tried opening it on the desktop, and it ejected while doing its initial read. And I have now tried in CD Ripper, and it also ejects while doing its initial read.

Thinking I might have a defective CD, I got Amazon to replace it - but the replacement behaves exacty the same.

Does this sound like a corrupted CD, or is it some new type of copy protection (I thought they'd given up on that years ago!)?

The CD plays perfectly in my 1990 Technics CD player...

Yes if a new release unlikely has copy protection, likely the CD drive does not like that disc for whatever reason, try getting a cheap usb CD drive (not superdrive) and a powered USB hub.

Yes, I've got a Hitachi-LG GP60 arriving today. I'll report back on results...

        OK, mixed results...

On the plus side, the new drive is able to read and rip the CD perfectly. But not able to get better results on a few "inaccurate" tracks on other CDs.

However, it is incredibly noisy and vibrates so much that it walks across the desk. So that'll be getting sent back...
