A new issue when scanning CD artwork

Something that just worked for years, now broken. Windows 10 ESR, 12/24 release of ripper. just updated.

For ever, if I don't like the available CD artwork when ripping, I scan the artwork from the scanner that sits on my desk. Currently an Epson V600. As long as I had the Epson software set to automatic, it just scanned it when I selected "acquire from scanner". and clicked on it. The scanned image, generally properly cropped, appeared in the image window. In the rare case when the auto-crop failed, usually with artwork with large white borders, I could change the Epson software to "professional", select "acquire from scanner" again and it would open the Epson scan software app, preview the image, let me manually crop and then scan, and put the scan in the image window.

Back a few years ago, the dBpa software started offering two choices, acquire from scanner and acquire from scanner (select scanner) or something like that. But even that worked properly when I selected the Epson.

Today when I started ripping a few CDs (the first time using the software in a couple of months and immediately after applying the latest update) there now is only one acquire from scanner choice, it opens a window listing a bunch of scanners (I have several "all in one" printers in different rooms on my Ethernet network, they all appear) I select the Epson. It opens another window (not the Epson provided app) with a whole bunch of settings. I try to scan, it does but gets the crop totally wrong, not finding the edges of the artwork image. So I try again, clicking on Preview, Same thing and when I try to move the crop guides on the preview image, they won't move. I can't set the image to crop differently from the very incorrect auto crop.

Essentially, the "acquire from scanner is broken and unusable on my computer now. I have to scan the image outside of dBpoweramp using the Epson software (which still works just fine by itself), save the image in the clipboard, and then paste it back in dBpoweramp. Very inconvenient and time consuming.

Please fix this to work like it always did before. I've used dBPA since 2014 and it works well and generally efficiently, but this is not an improvement.

Is this a bug from the 2025- 11-12 update where the release notes state "CD Ripper & ID Tag using new Windows Image Acqusition method to scan, always show system scanning dlg to scan (dropped extra option in menu to show settings)"? I'm not sure what type of scanning this is, image scanning?. Whatever, it doesn't work any more on my computer.

    Thank you

A slight update: I tried it with my Brother all-in-one and it scanned OK, only manual cropping which worked. Not a practical solution, as that printer is in a different room on the other side of the house.

The Epson scanner by itself works fine with the Epson software.

    Any help will be appreciated

Previously dBpoweramp used a very old Twain scanning method, this is not available in 64 bit builds, so we use the new Windows Image Acquisition method, which every program uses (twain was discontinued pretty much 10 years back).

Look at updating the epson drivers, I have an epson and works well for scanning.

Here is the issue, with an update. The default epson scan app "recommended for you" on their download page "Scanner Driver and Epson Scan" is the twain package, V3.9.3.1 which I had installed.

But in the next lower tab, drivers, if you open it, the first choice is "Scanner driver and Epson Scan 2 utility V 6.6.64.0" I've now installed it, and when opened it looks much like what opens when I select the Epson scanner in dBpa "acquire from scanner", select the Epson and open it.

The actual Epson Scan 2 app includes a checkbox not on your scan window labeled "thumbnail" The default (turned on) mode automatically crops the image (correctly) If you turn it off, it shows the entire scanner with adjustable crop lines to manually crop the image.

The "New Scan" box that opens in dBpa as I said does not have the "Thumbnail" clickbox but it does have a clickbox labeled "Preview or Scan images as separate files". By default it is checked. If you uncheck it, the preview image changes from the incorrectly automatically cropped image to the uncropped image with the adjustable crop lines, allowing me to manually set them for a proper crop. But if you reclick it, it goes back to the incorrectly cropped image (cropped to a vertical rectangle significantly larger than the scanned CD art image).

So it appears that the clickbox is mislabeled and the auto-crop doesn't work properly in dBpa although working correctly in the actual Epson WIA app.

So I have a workaround, to let me scan with the Epson but it would be appreciated if you can find out why the autocrop function doesn't work properly and can relabel the checkbox id that is what it really is.

The correct name for my scanner is Epson Perfection V600 Photo. Still apparently current manufacture.

        Thank you

        John
