I have been using dbPoweramp for about 10 years to rip and convert CD's with no issues. Today, I tried to rip a CD and Track 1 produced an error
[Error ripping to mp3 (LAME), 'Track 1' to 'C:\Users\robpr\Music\MP3s from my CDs\Tragically Hip, The - Man Machine Poem - Man.mp3'
Could not save cover art: (win:5)]
while all other tracks ripped successfully. I retried this several times with the same result. I checked on the forum and found a suggested fix (uninstall, use the linked utility to remove registry entries and suchlike, re-install, run the first time without changing anything). That worked but I didn't want a FLAC file without volume normalization and files whose naming had to be changed in a folder that had to be moved). I converted the ripped files to mp3 (CBR 256) with volume normalization, my desired filename structure, and desired file location. OK but too much work. For my second CD, I entered my desired parameters and got the same Track 1 error. Also I don't know why the cover art could not be saved - cover art was showing at the bottom of the screen. I tried using several different versions of the cover art searched by the program but no improvement.
I splurged and purchased the latest version and got exactly the same results. I tried several CDs - same result. I tried using the suggested fix and got the rip to work but again had to convert to get an mp3 with volume normalization, desired filename structure and desired destination folder.
So is it necessary to rip every CD without changing any parameters and then convert to get the parameters you want?
