Slow rips with C2 pointers enabled

Hi, Just setting my newish mac with a USB 3 - LG CD/Blu-ray be14nu40 drive. I have done the marker test and a scratched CD to confirm the drive uses c2 pointers.

From memory I have used the same setting as my old mac which is:
    Ripping Method – Secure
Enabled Ultra Secure ripping with Min passes 1, Max 2 and End after clean passes 1.
    Max Re-Reads – 34
    Drive Read Cache 1024 KB
    c2 Error Pointers ticked
    Interpolate Unrecoverable Frames ticked
    Add information to Log ticked.
All others unticked under Secure Ripping Options.

With c2 Error pointers ticked its finding approx 24 errors that it re rips which take approx 5mins for a 4min track. This is with new and CDs in very good condition. I don’t remember this happening before on my older mac. Only other difference is I’m using the latest 15.4 version.

When I turn off C2 pointers the CD burns very quickly as normal.

I’m sure the CD drive has C2 pointers so why would it be taking so long to rip?

    Thanks

Some drives do not implement it correctly.

So in my case would you recommend I turn off c2 error pointers but keep the other setting the same?

What is the downside to turning it off?

      Thanks.

Yes switch off. C2 adds an extra ability to detect errors.

But do keep in mind that if one gets an ACCURATERIP match, C2 or not is irrelevant. About half the drives I use don't properly support C2. I have it do extra passes in ultra secure mode if no AR match.
