Hi, could someone briefly explain what replay gain is and hopefully what my setting should be? When I look in the DSP tab it says ReplayGain. Is that correct, so it can be left alone. Having moved from Apple Music I never came across this before, so just wanted to make sure I'd not made some error. Thanks

I always add replaygain tags (album/track, LUFS -18) to all my CD rips. It is the only DSP I use when ripping. These are just tags that can be used by a replaygain capable server/player. I use the ReplayGain utility DSP in the Ripping settings. My settings for RG DSP, under advanced settings are: Album and Track, LUFS -18, do not tick the 'disable clip protection' and 'true peak' set to 4x oversample. -
Sort of understand. I just want the straight forward sound to be like the cd as much as possible. Preferably no effects or boosting of volumes/peaks. I am ripping lots of old (1940-60) albums and many are in mono with sound typical of the period. I'd prefer it to be exactly as it is on the cd, so should I switch it off and deleting ReplayGain from the DSP tab?Comment

They are just metadata tags. You can tell your player not to use RG tags in playback and they will be ignored. At least in all my players. And they rarely boost volume. Almost always reduce volume. This simply keeps you from having to turn your stereo volume up and down when playing different albums which are all mastered at different loudness levels.Comment
