    Another Issue with retrieving metadata

I ripped a CD 3 weeks ago with no issues, but am now embarking on ripping a pile of CDs that I have accumulated. However I am getting no metadata for all but one of my CDs (proving there is something somewhere that works) that I have tried today, including a test on the one I successfully ripped 3 weeks ago.

Now the fly in the ointment is that my ISP (Virgin Media) had been down for 3 weeks due to a major technical issue, and is now back up and running, but I can only think that this may have had some effect on my metadata recovery, as nothing else has changed.

Can anyone offer a solution or even a possible explanation for this? I have already reinstalled DBPoweramp (14), and run the file "dBpoweramp-Reset" after uninstalling the original setup.

      See:

R2025 includes many updates to the ever changing metadata landscape, in the recent years: All Media Guide (AMG) service has been discontinued freedb.org has also been discontinued musicbrainz updated their servers, resulting in R16 or older not being able to read the metadata AccurateRip Meta has been introduced R2025

      With regards to metadata.

Nero AAC encoder is no longer available, it was replaced by FDK AAC, which is included as standard in later versions.

For the number of CDs that I rip nowadays, I don't want to spend money on a new version. However, the v14 worked perfectly well 3 weeks ago and it did provide metadata for one CD today, so it is capable of providing metadata under the right conditions, despite the reported changes in the above article. I would welcome a different solution.

I have solved the m4a problem. I found an old post directing me to the internet archive where I found a suitable FDK codec.

You can try manually searching each one of the individual source providers to see what comes up. I can't recall which ones were on v14 that is really old. But if you choose not to update to the current version I don't think you can expect fluid operation. For existing users the upgrade cost is really only about the cost of one album. Not unreasonable IMO.
