The simplest way to check post-rip is to run them through PerfectTUNES AccurateRip.

I'm currently at work, so cannot check.

Do you get PerfectTUNES Accuraterip with dbPoweramp Reference, or is it bought separately?

PerfectTUNES is a separate illustrate product but the AccurateRip verification part is free.

When opening PerfectTUNES Control Center configure the Music Library to point to the problem rip. Once completed, make sure to also view the log (click on the i next to Match Details).

All of this assumes your rip is in the AccurateRip database of course.

So I'd need to buy PerfectTUNES to see which tracks have errors in them?

I assume they can't be repaired, but I'd have to re-rip from the source disc after checking/cleaning?

Also, when ripping tracks, I've always wondered why some details in the rip show green text, and some red.

Is that something to do with Accuraterip then?

No, AccurateRip checking in PerfectTUNES is free.

PerfectTUNES can't repair rips so you would need to re-rip - although if it's corruption then you have other/bigger issues to address!

green ok, red some sort of error. Accuraterip part of PerfectTunes is free.

What player are you using and getting distortion? And does the distortion show up if you try to play in a different player?

My PC CD/DVD writer is an Asus 24x DVDRW DRW-24D5MT SATA.

I am ripping the CD to WAV.

I played the CD in my car earlier, and it sounded fine.

6 of the 16 tracks on the disc have Inaccurate (1) or (2) in red, the other 10 are green.

I've just played one of the tracks that are inaccurate through VLC Player, from the actual physical CD, and it sounds distorted, the same as the WAV file.

I've just ripped the same disc with a different program, same distorted result!

                      I'm a bit confused. You talk about playing the CD and also about playing WAV files ripped from CD. If I understand;

                      1. Playing the physical CD:
                      • in your car CD player sounds OK.
                      • in VLC player on your computer, but playing the physcial CD (not the WAV rips) sounds distorted.
                      2. Playing the WAV files ripped from the CD
                      • Sounds distorted, also playing through VLC player, but playing WAV files
                      3. And you have ripped the CD files to WAV with a different ripper (not dbpa) and those WAV files sound distorted.

Perhaps this CD has copy control (when was it released? in the 1990s?). If so, ripping could produce distorted files. But a regular CD player (e.g., your car CD player) would play the disc with no issues. But maybe trying to play it through VLC on computer (which is not technically a regular CD player) also causes the distortion caused by "copy control".

I assume this is true just with this particular CD and not with ripping CDs in general?

                        Hi garym.

Many thanks for your detailed response.

You are correct in all of what you say, except the copy control part.

This CD does not have that in it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t check the most obvious thing, which is checking the actual playing surface of the CD. This CD was bought brand new in the year of release, 1989, and only played a couple of times. So I just assumed it would be “mark-free”. Unfortunately It has several marks on it.
I am going to clean it up tonight, and see if it rips with no errors.
Apologies to everyone for wasting their time!

BTW: the playback of an Audio CD player can't be compared to the playback or the ripping of an Audio CD with a computer. If a read error occurs during the playback with an Audio CD player, the player can interpolated values to a certain agress, so that the listener doesn't notice any problem at all. A computer tries to read out the values digitally and will not interpolate values in case of read errors. That can lead to dropouts or distorted sound in comparison to the Audio CD Player.

Ahh well, I cleaned the cd up, but it's still corrupt.

Luckily I still have my 320k rip from 207 which plays fine.
