dBpoweramp > CD Ripper > "CD Drive" status hangs at "looking for disc"

Hello, I am a Mac user on Sequoia 15.4.1. have been using the trial version of CD Ripper for a few weeks now. I have ripped around 150 CD's and have had no issues - all has worked perfectly well with the dBpoweramp CD Ripper trial version.

Today I have bought dbpoweramp reference following expiry of the trial, dBpoweramp CD Ripper Release 2025-05-04 (1) is downloaded and installed BUT CD Ripper is now getting no further than "Looking for disc"

My external cd drive is recognised perfectly by my Mac, and audio CD's can be played without issue thru "QuickTime Player" so all is good between the Mac and the CD drive. However, when a CD is inserted into the CD drive, the CD Ripper "CD Drive" status advances quickly from "No disc inserted" to "Looking for disc" and then advances no further.

The disc in the cd drive starts to spin, but CD Ripper fails to process any further. Instead CD Ripper hangs at "Looking for disc". Eventually, the disc in the CD drive just stops spinning and the CD drive goes to sleep. Even when I physically eject the disc from the CD Drive, the status of CD ripper remains "Looking for disc".

I have attempted twice now moving both the dBpoweramp CD Ripper and Music Converter from "Application" to my trash, emptying the trash and then re-downloading and re-installing, yet the same problem continues.

I have also attempted a safe restart of my Mac - again, no progress.

I am super keen to continue ripping my collection, so support to resolve and to get me back on the ripping road would be much appreciated. Thank you

Is any other software running and accessing the drive? Does any other software start automatically when you insert a disc?

Hello there, thank you for reaching out. To answer your question, I have just done the following.......

When I attach the empty cd drive to the Mac, no software runs - all that is open is "Finder" and "Safari" (this forum page is the only tab open in Safari).

When I insert an audio CD into the CD drive, the cd spins, following which "Audio CD" appears in Finder (Locations). The CD drive continues to spin for a couple of minutes, but no software opens.

I then open CD Ripper and the CD Drive status is already at "Looking for disc" and then hangs (on this occasion, it has now been hanging 20 minutes).

        Try:

macOS Catalina (or newer) introduces per program security access settings, normally OS X will ask when the program tries to access something if it should be granted permission. This security setting can also be set at a later date, click the Apple menu icon: System Preferences >> Security & Privacy >>
