This wouldn't put the disc number in front of track number. But I don't recommend it. As if you have a two disc album and disc 1 is the tracks with original mix and disc 2 is tracks with re-mix, but the track titles are the SAME, then when you rip disc 2, it will overwrite track 1 from the first disc.

    [MAXLENGTH]240,[IFCOMP]Compilations\[album]\[track] - [title] - [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[track] - [title][][]

In my own case, using my naming string I provided you earlier, it only uses disc number if it is 2 or higher. If I have a single disc CD, I leave the disc number BLANK when ripping rather than putting "1" there. This way, for single disc albums, I only see track numbers and not 1.01, 1.02, etc.

And yes, always check whether the COMPILATION box needs ticking (or unticking) before ripping. Also check that Disc box is blank for single CDs.

I have many dozens of HDCD discs. Mostly Grateful Dead. Many of these don't even use HDCD features like PE, so they don't need any special treatment. But even the ones that do use PE feature and should matter don't really sound that different to me, my old ears, my system, etc. So after testing some known HDCDs that should matter, and they didn't for me, I abandoned any attempt to do anything special with HDCDs. But if I ever change my mind, I can always convert my rips to HDCD with dbpa converter.

    Have fun!

Based on your enlightenment relating to potential overwrite concerns with multi-discs having the same track name, I've decided to stick with the first string you suggested. And I will try to remember to blank out the Disc field when ripping single albums. Thanks for the heads up.

Do not recall ever needing to check the Compilation box in the past. So hopefully it does not inadvertently get checked in the future. But I now know to check if it is checked, the next time the folder that's supposed to show the artist's name is replaced by "Compilation."

With respect to the PE (i.e., Pre-Emphasis) feature. How can you tell if it's there if the Technical column only alerts you to the fact that it's an HDCD disc? Do you recommend enabling the Pre-Emphasis DSP?

Keep the pre-emphasis DSP ticked in the CD Ripper settings (this is not adding a DSP). This setting will deal with pre-emphasis automatically if it exists (and of course it is rare in any case). See picture.

Regarding knowing about PE feature, one can check all this with HDCD components in the program foobar2000. But I don't recall the exact steps. Also, regarding COMPILATION tag, it might get ticked automatically from the metadata source that dbpa uses. Keep in mind that all this metadata is mostly ok in terms of track numbers and names. Decent in terms of album names. Typically terrible regarding genres and album dates. I always quickly look at all this information as it shows up on the ripper screen BEFORE I rip the disc.
