    Unicode in CD Ripper?

A lot of the titles of the ten CDs in this set contain umlauts (and other diacritics) etc.

So get M? Dchen instead of [B]M
Schumann’s songs are among the greatest musical achievements of the nineteeth century, and this is the perfect release with which to mark the composer’s 200th birthday. This marvellous collection comprises Schumann’s complete songs, presented for the first time in their chronological sequence of composition, with complete song texts, and a chronology of Schumann’s life and songs by Graham Johnson. Johnson is, of course, also the curator and unifying musical force of this series, accompanying his hand-picked selection of singers – some of the greatest lieder performers of today, and indeed of tomorrow – with utter sensitivity.

My post was cut off and should read:

    So get M? Dchen instead of M + a-umlaut + dchen.

Does dBpoweramp CD Ripper support diacritics and Unicode; if so, how do I enable it?

    Thanks in advance… !

I always fix that stuff in "post," i.e., post-rip metadata editing. Unless you're lucky enough that the online metadata is correct and properly formatted for those tracks, I know of no other option than to fix it manually.

For anyone (in the English-speaking world) who rips a lot of classical music, it's worth considering how you want to approach this. Original-language accuracy will require considerable, often tedious editing. A couple alternatives include adopting a consistent use of Anglicized substitutions (eg., schloss vs. [I]Schlo

That’s what I have just spent many hours doing :-)

In a way it gets quite enjoyable after a while, doesn't it.

But - should I assume that dBpoweramp doesn't support Unicode, and so it can't cope with umlauts, accents and so on?

        That's me :-)

Thanks for the notion of anglicization. I could do that. But, also being a lover of languages, I would like to keep the diacritics, if possible.

BTW I note that your Eszett (I think it must be:
        [I]Schlo
) also seems to have cut off the rest of your post - as my a-umlaut did. Not too crucial, but is this a forum setting that could also be fixed, do you think?

        Thanks again!

The forum software doesn't like german umlauts, but dBpa does.

But CD Ripper mangles all of those in the tracks I referred to in my OP: I get, for example,
            Code:
            F? R
            (a space and a capital "R") for the German word for "for", namely "F + u-umlaut + r"

            Any way round this, please?

dBpoweramp supports it, the online database might not have it in the unicode format.

Try a manual search of discogs.

Thanks, Spoon: are you suggesting that I first examine what dBpoweramp makes of the CD(s) using AccurateRip Meta (my default); then - if that hasn't handled the diacritics correctly - switch to Sonata or Freedb - as here:
