Unable to get Perfect Meta working

I'm a long-time user of the free version but I converted today in order to get beta track information.
Unfortunately the Perfect Meta doesn't seem to be working for me.
I've tried disabling my firewall but it makes no difference.
I'm fairly technical - how can I debug why new CDs I've bought can't get track information.
I know they are in Musicbrainz, at least, if I visit their site directly.

I know Perfect Meta should work because it worked fine for me during my trial a long long time ago.

clarify a bit what you mean by "not working". Are you getting error messages? Or is it simply that no metadata is returned? Metadata sources are all greyed out? or ???? Also, what do you mean by "beta track" information? I don't follow the "beta" part?

Sorry about my lack of proof reading - as pointed out I meant "better".
Clarification re. "not working" is that I put a CD in, I clear any metadata it may have gathered and then presss the Meta buttion. The display then gives me just "track1", "track2" etc. If I review then all the options are indeed greyed out.
I do have all sources selected on the Meta options.

got it. Hmmmm, sounds like a firewall issue (then again, I didn't have to do anything special with my firewall to use on my win7(64) system). Check to see that your install is actually showing up as a registered install. Run the configuration program and it will indicate registered (or not)

Even unregistered would get metadata from freedb, try with a popular CD to be sure.

Please can you confirm the platform/OS and dBpoweramp Music Converter version you are running?

I'm using Windows7 64-bit and I have zoneAlarm firewall which I've hopefully checked is letting things through.
I've also tried the "Snooze Firewall for 5 minutes" feature to hopefully eliminate the firewall as an issue.

As one of the previous posters said, I used to get track names through freedb even with my unregistered copy.
My thought was that maybe with the newer versions that had been disabled to encourage people to pay up - I've now paid up but still no track names for some reason.

My dmc version is 15.3 - downloaded the registered version today and I've just checked I'm registered via the config program.

Did the issue start after installing zoneAlarm firewall? Are you posting to this forum from the same Windows7 64-bit PC?

I've always used zonealarm, since before I had dbpoweramp but obviously not always the same version.

You have tried several different CDs and no metadata is being returned for any CD, from any of the metadata database providers?

                        Yes that is correct.
Is there some kind of debug report I can enable to see if the program is getting a connection to the remote database etc?
Is this kind of situation pretty unusual?

You have an internet connection, so I am unsure why CDRipper is not able to connect to the online metadata database providers.

Occasionally, it is reported that one of the online metadata database provider servers is down, but I rarely experience this.

Spoon may have some ideas on what is wrong here.

My guess was that maybe there was a problem with freedb specifically which is why I thought I'd take the trouble to register and get proper metadata lookup instead of being a sponger. I'm also lazy about typing in track names and the free version has been very good to me.

I'd love to know why I've still got this problem with the registered version - I used to get info from freedb easily until a few months ago.
Last few CDs I bought it looked like maybe it was reading the CDtext if there was some but giving me nothing otherwise.
However, its very difficult to be sure if you've got no error reports to view like "failed to connect to freedb" etc.

3rd party firewall programs and Anti-Virus programs often create these types of issues with dbpa (or some other audio programs I use). And the real headache is that simply "turning off" one of these programs often doesn't actually disable it. I've seen cases where a firewall or AV program had to be UNINSTALLED in order to test whether it was the cause of a problem. I suspect the firewall program is restricting access to the metadata databases.
