Skip on ripped track, but FLAC only, not on MP3

I have been using a multi-rip process for years, over a decade, to get tracks to two drives for network consumption as FLAC, and device portability as MP3.
However today I listed to just one ripped track, and it had a skip after about 17 seconds.
    The MP3 does not.

I tried to re-rip, exactly the same result
I tried a different drive, exactly the same result
I tried writing to a different HD, same result...

Any idea why this might be, and how to overcome it?

Convert the flac file to wave, if dBpoweramp does not show an error then the flac file is 100% the same as the cd rip, because at the end of conversion is a check on a stored md5
