FLAC encoding Issues - Mac Version

    Hi there.

Introduction - Ripped my vast 2000+ CD collection years ago using XLD and ripping at 256k CBR MP3.

Fast Forward 3 years - Storage has got cheaper, i now have a server and invested in a Sonos System. Wanted to up my stakes in the digital library, so re-ripping all the CD's for a final time (i hope) in FLAC and 320kps MP3.

Needed a Ripper that could dual rip in both - and after lots of investigation found dbPoweramp. Tested 21 days thoroughly, came the conclusion this was the one and bought a licence.

So... 100 CD's into my ripping process, i seem to have found an issue with FLAC encoding.

Assuming by having AccurateRip on, and the "After Encoding Verify Written Audio" option ticked within the FLAC encoder, i'd be set to rectify issues there and then.

But occasionally after ripping (with no errors), i'll playback a track i've ripped on the Sonos, a FLAC file i've ripped using dbPoweramp. which is playing fine, then midway through song, Sonos controller pops up "this track is not encoded properly" and 2 seconds later starts to sound garbled, jumps around a bit then skips onto next track. If i play the same .flac in VLC - exactly the same outcome. If i play the MP3 which was ripped at the same time using the Multi encoder, it's fine. So i think the finger points at the FLAC encoder?

To understand my setup - I have a Music share on my server - which then branches off into an MP3 subfolder and a FLAC subfolder - both of which are identical folder trees. dbPoweramp rips MP3 and FLAC to a 'rip' folder on my local hard disk, then once verified, i manually copy the appropriate format to the associated subfolder tree on the server. Sonos points to FLAC side. iTunes to other side. I can create playlists in iTunes, then export them and do a search / replace of MP3 for FLAC in the M3U for the playlist to work in Sonos environment. Works a treat.

I have no idea what to do. Three tracks now i've found with this issue. If i re-rip, the problem goes away. But i now have 100 or so CD's ripped, and now unsure if they are 100% good rips - despite them all being verified by AccurateRip and what i thought was verification through the FLAC encoder. The plan was to sell on CD's now i had the FLAC's, but hesitant to do this until i have listened to ever single track for issues.

The tracks this happens to have been ripped in R15 onwards. I haven't found any problems with the ones i ripped during my trial with R1.

As i have over 1900+ CD's to Rip, i need to get to the source of the problem here.

I'm using an iMac - Early 2008 version with 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo processor / 4GB RAM running OS X 10.10.3. Been my trusted ripper for many years.

Surely having the "After Encoding Verify Written Audio" option ticked in the FLAC encoder would identify any issues?

    Any ideas?

    Regards
    Colin.

        The file is definitely corrupted.

And looking at the data roughly where the corruption starts, there seems to be strange text that is different from the rest of the file.

Where do you store the music? locally on the MAC? to me it could be a storage corruption issue.

Files are ripped locally to local Hard Drive on Mac. Once ripped and i have verfiied there is no errors , i manually copy them onto a share on my Windows Server 2012 File Server - where they live with around 40,000 other Audio files. It's only FLAC's that have this issue - as i say, the corresponding MP3 created at the same time via the Multi Encoder is spot on.

As i say, that's three tracks i've found now with this issue. Ripped approx 3,000 tracks so far with FLAC / MP3 rip. Not listened to them all yet, but the only pattern i've found is the one's with issues were ripped on the new version i downloaded once licence was purchased. On saying that, every other track i have listened too has been perfect.

dBpoweramp will find the files with problems, run Batch Converter, filter to just FLAC and choose all your music folder, click Convert and choose the encoder as 'Test Conversion'

Do this first on you local HDD on the MAC.

Thanks - The Mac at home is currently switched off, so when i get home tonight i will copy FLAC's onto local drive and try what you suggested.

As my server is on 24/7 with remote access, i did connect to my Server and ran the FLAC's through a utility called Audio Tester.

              3212 FLAC's scanned - 32 failed test and 3180 passed.

Those that failed - 10 failed on an error FRAME_CRC_MISMATCH and the other 22 failed on an error LOST_SYNC

I thought i'd then run the MP3 folder of the same files through Audio Tester out of curiosity - and i have 20 failures - all LOST_SYNC and none the same files as the FLAC errors.
