When ripping CDs, there's no harm in creating the ReplayGain tags using The ReplayGain DSP (not the ReplayGain (Apply) DSP). You can save both track gain and album gain tags.

I use the following settings when ripping CDs to FLAC:

3) If I don't click it (which is the situation I'm in) and then later decide that I should've clicked it, do I have to go back and re-rip all my CDs, or is there another way to manage this?

1) No
2) Nothing
3) No need for re-ripping, but just batch converting

In the instructions, we're told that we should set DSP effect to "ReplayGain." But I noticed the following warning on some of my discs when I did that:

Warning: Normalisation gain would have resulted in clipping, gain has been reduced to prevent this:
Loudness=-22.77LUFS, Gain=4.77dB, Maximum True Peak=-1.00LUFS, True Peak=-3.14LUFS, New gain=2.14dB [clDSP::EndConversion]

I didn't know what this meant, but it didn't sound good, and anyway I don't really see the point of ensuring that "tracks from different discs all appear with the same volume" - I don't necessarily listen to chamber music at the same volume as rock. So I unclicked it.

But now I'm wondering that perhaps I just don't understand the function of this setting. So here are my questions:

1) Is this setting necessary?
