CDGrab.exe freezes up when confirming to do accuraterip

Running windows 7 64-bit, power-user. Just purchased CD Ripper reference. Put in a disc, and it popped up asking me if I want to use accuraterip. After I click, the program freezes up and I lose my ability to open the CD tray. After a while I try to kill the program but I cannot. Eventually something times out and the program exits. After this, the CD-ROM is no longer visible in my computer. I have restarted the computer several times and its always the same. I have explicitly included CDGrab.exe into the windows firewall exclusions list. Besides this, I can use the CD-ROM just fine. I even did a test-rip with EAC using LAME codec.

For reference I am using the ASUS DRW-24B1ST.

Any ideas on what may be causing this? Anything I can try?

Looks like the issue is more general. Even if I click no to configuring accurate rip, the program is not able to rip. Attached is a screen shot. It just sits there and the status of ripping is 0%.

I have double checked that I have the latest FW on the ASUS. After attempting the rip for about 15 minutes, I get a log with these errors:

Error ripping to FLAC, 'Track 2' to 'G:\Music\*******.flac'
Unable to read CD, check CD disc (frame LBA 23332 ripping 26 frames track end LBA 61500) [clRipperSecure::Rip]

EAC can rip without any issues. Is it possible to download an older version of the program? Click image for larger version

Try right click CD Ripper icon >> Run as Administrator

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have tried that (and also configured the program properties to run as admin) - unfortunately that does not work. The lockup is so bad that if I don't wait for a timeout and just try to shut the computer down, the computer will sit there trying to shutdown "forever".

Interesting new datapoint - I hooked up an external USB DVD driver (Memorex DVD Writer 8X) and this seemed to not make the lockups occur. It couldn't get accuraterip to work, but it can rip to FLAC etc. I don't plan to use such a drive to rip however as my goal is to get highest fidelity.

As a debug exercise I also downloaded the latest version of EAC (mine was very old), which uses accuraterip, and that locked up to. So I can conclude that somehow my CD player cannot work with new CD ripping SW. If you have any other suggestions please let me know otherwise I'll get a new CD-ROM.

It does look specific to the drive if 2 different software lockup.

Closing the loop. Just installed my replacement ASUS DRW-24B1ST and the lockup no longer occurs, so the problem was definitely HW. Thanks for the help/suggestions.
