CD Ripper Hangs at start

I am running windows 7 64 bit sp1
I have downloaded and installed CD Ripper 15.1
The programme hangs and never reads the CD
I have run diagnostics on my CD-drive. I have tried several CD's. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 32bit version. This gives the exact same problem.
I have tried dbPoweramp CD Ripper before on my old machine running XP without problems.
Grateful for any help to get me up and running
I am a newbie to forums so please excuse any missing info or wrong settings.

If you start CD Ripper with no audio cd in the drive it loads?

Yes it load ok and it responds to being setup etc.
The problem arises as soon as a CD is inserted. Cd ripper then licks up completely and I have to shut it with Task Manager.

Under the meta drop menu, disable all the meta providers, then insert a CD, does it give a track listing?
