Metadata: Ripping Artists starting with 'The' / Solo Artists

    Hi,

Is there a way I can rip my CDs for artists starting with 'The' (e.g. The Beatles, The Doors, The Replacements) so that they don't sort on the word 'The'? In other words, when looking through my digital collection 'The Beatles' will appear under 'B' and not 'T'. I know I could use 'Beatles, The' but this looks really bad in my opinion.

Likewise, is there a way I can get solo artists to appear under the first letter of their surnames (e.g. Neil Young under 'Y' and not 'N')? Again, I know I could use 'Young, Neil' but I don't like this either.

    Thanks in advance.

Use ARTISTSORT tags in addition to ARTIST tags. This assumes your player will correctly handle these tags.

      Hi garym,

I'm trying to rip a CD by The Doors. I've selected 'Artist Sort' under the Metadata Options and this is now showing as 'Doors'. Does it matter if the Artist Field and Album Artist fields say 'Doors, The' (the default option) or 'The Doors'? When I copy the files to my Astell & Kern 240, I can't get 'The Doors' to show up under 'D'. It's either 'Doors, The' under 'D' or 'The Doors' under 'T' which I don't want.

Also, since I selected 'Artist Sort', the ripped file shows up like '01 Doors, The - Roadhouse BluesDoors, TheRoadhouse BluesMorrison HotelDoors, TheDoors, The.flac instead of '01 Doors, The - Roadhouse Blues.flac'. How can I get round this?

Select a track, right-click it and select Edit ID-Tag. Are your tags and related sort tags populated similar to this?:

Can you post your CDRipper Naming scheme string?

            Hi mville,

I am very new to Dbpoweramp. I'm using it on a Macbook Pro with Parallels. When I select a track and right click it, there is no option to select Edit ID Tag. I can't see it anywhere. There is the ID Meta Box in the bottom right hand corner next to the artwork (does editing this not do the same thing?). I not sure what you mean by CD Ripper Naming Scheme string either.

The ID Tag editor shown above is activated by right clicking on a file after it has been ripped >> Edit ID Tag

I've selected the 'Eject After Rip' option so when the file has been ripped, it disappears from view on DBPowerAmp. Are you talking about right clicking on the actual file on my Hard Drive? Sorry but I'm really confused.

Yes on the HDD, use Windows explorer to browse to the file.

Thanks, I can see it now. Should my Tags be populated as above by mville?

They may be based on the metadata databases that dbpa accesses for info. But if not, you can always edit them manually to be the info you want. Also, in ripper options be sure to select the tag fields you want automatically filled when info is available. I'm away from computer, but it is somewhere in your ripper options where you select these.

I've solved this now. I think I must have changed the 'Set File Naming' to another type or string by mistake. I've changed it back and it works as I want it now.

I've just re-ripped 'Morrison Hotel' using the following tags:

Album Artist / Artist: The Doors
Album Artist Sort / Artist Sort: Doors, The
                          Album: Morrison Hotel

Unfortunately, when I transfer the files to my AK240, the files show up as 'The Doors' under letter 'T' instead of 'D'. Is this an issue with my AK240 or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Does the AK240 support the reading of the sort tags?

If unsure, check with the manufacturer and if not, ask the manufacturer to implement.

No idea. I will check with A&K. In principle, do you think I'm doing it the right way?
