How to rip a 24b/96kHz CD

I have a CD that says it is 24b/96kHz and that it is best enjoyed with a DVD player. When I rip this CD I get the standard 16/44.1 CD files. Can I rip the 24/96 version?

All audio CDs are 16 bit 44KHz.

There are HDCDs which can decode to 20 bits.

There are also SACD which have 2 layers, the higher definition layer cannot be ripped on any PC.

It is a normal CD, they just say that 24 / 96 was used during the mastering, after which it was down mixed to 16/44.

The bit about the dvd player is actually false, it will play it back identical to a CD player.

It is a standard audio cd, on the back it says 'recorded utilizing 24 bit 96khz technology', you could record in 24/192, but to write the cd it has to be converted to 44KHz 16 bit.

It might be a DualDisc with a CD layer and a DVD-Audio layer. A CD player will only see the CD content, while a DVD player would be able to play the 96/24 content. It would be nice to have a link for that release.

It was recorded in 24bit 96khz.

Yes, that just looks like a normal CD. It has audio only recorded at 44.1/16 and should play identically on any CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray player.
