Primera Technology Bravo 4100-series bulk ripper/label printer

It was our impression when we settled on dBpoweramp Reference edition that the CD Ripper would work with the Primera Technology Bravo 4100 series of products. We have a model that is both a cd-burner and label printer. It's the CD burn interface that doesn't function.

Is this a correct interpretation? I'm not familiar with the exact nature of the problem (I can get the details after I get a response here) but I do know that we have not been able to get it to work. Unfortunately, in order to use it, my partner has had to use iTunes to rip CDs to ALAC and then convert the files to FLAC for our radio station's digital library.

Not only do we get the "burst" ripping limitation with iTunes and no AccurateRip support, the amount of metadata provided by Gracenote is inadequate and the extra steps to convert to FLAC and then overhaul the metadata are a real problem. This is especially so, since he has a disability which makes this process very much harder than it should be.

OK, what does dBpoweramp Reference edition support in the Primera line-up, if any at all?

Thanks in advance for your help with this issue.

CD Ripper >> Communication >> set to Windows Built-in

    Then restart cd ripper

You said: "CD Ripper >> Communication >> set to Windows Built-in"

We're not sure where to find this setting. The only place where I can find anything about "Communication" is buried under the Options button. Is this what you mean?

Options (button) > CD ROM > Read into Lead-in or Lead-out (checked) > Communication > Windows Internal [For Limited Accounts]

To us, this doesn't make any sense. For one, we were aren't using a "CD ROM" to read from the CD (It's a read/write device) and secondly, we don't really understand what is meant by Read into Lead-in or Lead-out and when or why it should be selected in the first place.

Having said that, is this the setting you are referring to? If so, where can we learn more about the Lead-in/Lead-out usage?

Sorry but we're still not sure what your response means. There is no "Communications" setting directly under the Options button. Do you mean what I asked before: The communications setting found here: Options >> CD ROM >> Read into Lead-In or Lead-out >> Communications >> Windows Internal ???

It is the option below the lead in / out, it is separate to lead in / out.

Ah, yes, I see that now. The indentation on that and other options seems to imply that they are 'subsets" of the item above it. I believe it's that way under other parts of the Options setting window.

Is there a link to Help information regarding the use of the Lead-in/Lead-out setting? I can't find it anywhere, but maybe I looked in the wrong places.

              Thanks for clarifying this.

Re: Primera Technology Bravo 4100-series bulk ripper/label printer

On as very serious topic, does the mere use of the Primera burner/label printer eliminate our current support for gathering on-line metadata? I can see where its use could generate more metadata seeks than by ripping manually, but we're a non-profit radio station just trying to move our CD collection into a file-based lossless music library. We cannot afford high costs for on-line support on a CD-by-CD basis. We just want to streamline our workflow, not go into business making money with it.

Would we not be able to get on-line responses from AMG, GD3, MusicBrainz and FreedB if we use the Primera to rip our CDs? If so, what is the cost and how is it calculated?

If you use the batch ripper then the costs are 8 cents a CD if you want to use AMG, using GD3 is around 10 cents a CD.

You would not need read lead in or out, as this just recovers the 30 or so samples from the beginning or end of the CD.

What if no metadata is retrieved, as often happens with advanced copies of new releases? Are we still charged for "asking" for it?

Are there charges for MusicBrainz and Freedb?

Say that we chose to use only Freedb and AMG. How are these uses logged and then the services paid?

If a lookup cannot be done then it is not charged. Freedb and MB are freed.

AMG can be paid on its own inside batch ripper.
