Yep, that's exactly what it is. Strange....

Re: Several miscellaneous questions about CD Ripper

Just re-visiting this to see if we can get to the bottom of why it happens on my system. Would anyone mind trying to replicate what I did and seeing whether the files plays. Spoon - I know you tried my string but that was the truncated version. What happens if you add a few more characters to the end of the filename? When it gets truncated by the programme, does the resulting file play ok? I'm on 14.4....

As for one of the other things I initially asked about... Custom Genres being added to the drop down list. This seems to be really sporadic and random. Some are being added. Others are not. There are some genres I have used for a fair few rips now and I am still have to put them in manually every time. Is there any way I can change this so it updates quicker? Or is there somewhere I can dig into to add these genres to the drop down list manually all in one go?

        Many thanks

          The genres are in:

          %appdata%\dbpoweramp\Genres.txt

It would not make sense to manually add extra characters to the final length to push over the 260 limit, Windows explorer would not allow full interaction with that file then.

That's so helpful!!! Great. Thank you, that will be a real time saver.

What would be even greater would be if I could have the metadata not assign a genre when I put a CD in. So the field would be blank and I choose from the drop down list. No biggie if not. But saves a few clicks per CD if I could do that.

Sorry, I meant to add the characters to the tags which generate the folder and file names (to push the resulting path over 260 and see if the same thing happens).

            Cheers

The tags were way longer than the ones used in the filename, they were shorted automatically.

So were mine, but the resulting file would not work (in the ways described above).

                  Hi

Any further ideas or thoughts on this or should I just keep doing it manually? That's what I've been doing up until now... I've been keeping my eyes open and if there is a potentially long filename / path I copy and paste it into Word and run a word count/character count. It's not a massive hassle. But would be nice to know the programme was taking care of it; especially seeing as the file ended up being unusable in the example above.

The program does take care of it, in your example the program shortened to 259 characters when I tried your exact values.

Yeah, I guess so. But something is obviously going wrong somewhere for it to not work on my computer. Granted it may be nothing to do with DBPA and perhaps something to do with Windows and / or my set up. No idea what though. So if anyone reading has any ideas or suggestions then I'm all ears. I'm on WinXP SP3.

                      Cheers

Your naming string, you can put:

[maxlen]...[] around the path and separately around the filename, limt the path to 180 and the filename to 60
