Why does this window show up... once in a while

Just curious why the following window "dBPowerampCD Ripper Information" shows up after a rip. It only shows up after maybe 1 in 20 rips.

It is definitely not consistent and I do not understand the value of it, or why it offers to copy the text to clipboard.

It is supposed to show up. In my case it shows up after every rip. And it is the same info you'd see in the TXT file saved in the album subdirectory that has the log info from the rip (assuming you've set dbpa to save that log to your subdirectory).

This might sound dumb, but ... How do I know that the rip is over? I see that the ripping is done, but there is no popup, no message, no signal, nothing....and, like I said, only once in a blue moon do I get the above message. Does Burst mode finish the same as Secure mode?

You are best with Secure mode. The ripping status is shown at the top of CD ripper.

that's the beauty of dbpa. Use secure (I use the ultra secure mode). It basically does burst mode first, compares to accuraterip, and if a match it moves on. If there is no match or disk not in AR database yet, it moves on to do a secure rip. If i rips 2 or more times (depending on your settings) and gets crc matches with no frame issues, you get "secure" rip. Using dbpa in burst mode only is like buying a Porche, and leaving it in the garage without ever driving.

Okay, I've switched over to Secure mode and now I get that message at the end of each rip.

The reason I did not use Secure mode at first is because the very first time I tried it, it took a very long time to rip a CD... like 20 minutes. Turns out, the CD had errors plus my computer was acting up. After a reboot and using a different CD I now see that Secure mode isn't all that much slower than Burst.

            Thanks for the input.

Burst is not secure. Why would you use dbpa if you don't want a secure rip? Yes, it *can* take longer (I've had problemCDs take an hour). But that's the point of using dbpa over say, iTunes or WMP to rip.

I dunno. Why WOULD I use secure when I don't know anything about the product? There is little documentation that is readily and easily available. The rips sound the same as far as I could tell. Secure to me read that it was more Secure of a rip, like that it had security features. Obviously I was wrong, but really, how would I have known? Why use an adjective like SECURE? To me, it doesn't fit the bill like EXACT, or FLAWLESS, IMMACULATE, IMPECCABLE..... I work for the military and SECURE meant something totally different.

One thing I find about Illustrate software is that it doesn't have your typical Help files and the documentation isn't in any standard software format. So it isn't the easiest to understand. But I'm getting a better understanding of it now. It just takes time and a bit of help from fine folks like you. So, thanks!

                  This might help

Also, you can search this forum on key words or google. I agree that there is a learning curve with this stuff (I was where you are a few years ago). I was just a bit confused, as most people that decide to use dbpa got here after they learned about the need for secure ripping, how it is different etc. but no matter, you ended up at the right place now and there are helpful folks at this forum. You might also look at hydrogenaudio.org for good ripping and digital music info.
