Is "Burst" and "Secure" ripping the same for an undamaged CD?

    Hi all

Sorry for the basic question. I'm still getting to grips with all this and am a bit slow on the uptake!

Here's my question...... If you have a brand new (or mint condition) CD, does it make a difference whether it is ripped using Burst or Secure mode? If both modes straight away produce rips that are verified by AccurateRip (Pass 1), are they essentially the same at that stage? Is it only when errors are found that there is a difference between the two modes?

In case it changes anything, I am using drives with C2 error detection....

    Many thanks

that's the beauty of secure ripping option in dbpa. You don't need to think about setting it to one or the other. Set it to "ultrasecure" and then it does a burst (fast) rip and if your rip matches the ACCURATERIP database then it stops and you're done. If it doesn't match AR, then it does additional rips based on your secure settings to test for matching CRCs, etc. And if the multiple tries matches, you get SECURE.

Also keep in mind that I have about as many nonsecure problems with brand new, first time in a player CDs as I do with older, much used CDs. You can't really "see" potential problems on a CD in many cases and manufacturing defects can and do show up on brand new, mint looking CDs.

Great, that's just as I thought and hoped then! Marvelous stuff.

That's interesting and not what I would have expected. I'll soon be ripping +2000 CDs, so I guess I'll be finding out for myself soon. I'm just currently going through the configuration options, so no doubt I'll be back soon with more questions.

Thanks so much to you, Spoon and everyone else who has helped. I'm really loving the software and this forum is also great. I'm still on the trial at the moment but will purchase soon. Will I get a warning or anything when the trial is nearing the end of the 21 days?

      Cheers
