    High res ripping.

I have recently purchased a high res player which is capable of playing 24-bit / 192 kHz files . I will now be re-ripping my CD collection to either FLAC or WAV and I would like to know which of the 2 formats do people prefer. I have noticed the option to rip CD's to 24-bit / 192 kHz files when selecting WAV. Does this mean dBpoweramp will up-sample my CD's to true hi-res files or is it just wishful thinking on my part and why is the option not available when selecting FLAC. Your opinion and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just wishful thinking, dBpoweramp upconvert to 192KHz, but there is no extra information, you would be wasting space.

Thanks for the reply. So I am presuming I would have to purchase high res files which in turn would have to have been recorded in high res in the first place? Is this the future?

Here is the answer for anoyone interested courtesy of Real HD-Audio. "Data compression schemes like MP3 are called "lossy" because they throw away a substantial amount of musical data. Once it's gone, it's gone."
