Every track errors ripping pristine CD

Hi Spoon the man and all you smart and helpful power users!

So, I'm now well into my project of re-ripping every CD I own to replace my MP3 library with with FLAC files on a NAS. It's been going quite well. The computer has an Optiarc drive built in. A few weeks ago I installed a second drive, a Lite-On, and when I get an error rip on the OptiArc I try the Lite-On and quite often it is able to Accurate Rip the tracks the OptiArc can't. But something odd happened over this last weekend. A CD that looks absolutely pristine (Talking Heads' True Stories) returned errors for every track--in both drives. Here's an example of what the log looks like:

Information ripping to FLAC, 'Track 1' to 'U:\Music\myrips\FLAC\Talking Heads\True Stories\01 Talking Heads - Love for Sale.flac'
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 7129 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames
    Track 1: Ripped LBA 37 to 20465 (4:32) in 5:35. Filename: U:\Music\myrips\FLAC\Talking Heads\True Stories\01 Talking Heads - Love for Sale.flac
    Insecure [Pass 1 & 2, Ultra 1 to 4, Re-Rip 7129 Frames]
    Insecure [Pass 1 & 2, Ultra 1 to 4, Re-Rip 7129 Frames]
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 7129 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames

Information ripping to FLAC, 'Track 2' to 'U:\Music\myrips\FLAC\Talking Heads\True Stories\02 Talking Heads - Puzzlin' Evidence.flac'
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 8572 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames
    Track 2: Ripped LBA 20465 to 44762 (5:23) in 5:58. Filename: U:\Music\myrips\FLAC\Talking Heads\True Stories\02 Talking Heads - Puzzlin' Evidence.flac
    Insecure [Pass 1 & 2, Ultra 1 to 4, Re-Rip 8572 Frames]
    Insecure [Pass 1 & 2, Ultra 1 to 4, Re-Rip 8572 Frames]
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 8572 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames

I continued ripping other CDs afterwards just fine--it is only this CD. But something else I have noticed happening occasionally is that the last track of a CD that looks pristine will error, on both drives. Always the last track.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

CDs can have problems invisible to the eye, such as manufacturing defects.

Although the CD plays perfectly to my ears, that makes sense. Thanks, Spoon. For curiosity, I'm going to borrow another copy of it and see what happens when I rip it.

Yes, I sometimes have brand new, 'first time in a CD drive' disks that have errors on ripping.

Could be a copy protection scheme? Word of mouth has it that some Talking Heads releases were equipped with a quite nasty one.

Good question. I'll report results when I get another copy of it to try.
