Problems with Ultra Secure Ripping

Hallo!
I rip my CDs with the option "Ultra Secure" enabled. It normally works fine but lately I've been experiencing some problems with CDs which are not in Accurate Rip. What happens is that after Pass 1 & 2 + Ultra secure 1-3 dBpoweramp finds at least 200-300 Frames to re-rip. And this for every track! The discs can not be damaged because they're all brand new. How can that happen? I don't think that this can depend on the CD-Drive of my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite L670) because with CDs which are in AR I don't have any problem. I really hope You can help me :cry:

It will be cd drive related, the errors are differences in audio in each pass.

So what should I do? Is this a real problem or should I just ignore it? And if the errors are differences in each pass shouldn't they also occur after the second pass (which they don't)? I'm afraid that not using the ultra secure option could cause a bad ripped cd :(
Interesting is also that this is a new problem: until 2 or 3 months ago it worked perfectly, also with CDs which are not in AR. Please help!

Ultra secure should not cause the end result to differ, it is likely the drives performance has deteriorated over time.

Thank You! So what do You suggest? Should I keep on turning the ultra secure mode off when this problem occur or buy a new drive? If so could You please suggest a model (an external one) which works good together with dBpoweramp? Another question and then I won't bother again : if a CD has been ripped inaccurately does it show with clicks or something similar or should I fear some loss like a worse sound or similar?

If the disc is not yet in accuraterip you can try to verify with CTDB, its updated in realtime, so it often has new discs before AR.

I would recommend a 5.25" drive (if using a laptop add eSATA to the laptop), Asus, panasonic, are all generally good.

Ok, thanks! My laptop has already an e-sata connection. Is it so much better than a normal usb? On Amazon I found some Asus or Panasonic external drives but no one seems to be a 5.25". Is this a standard size or what does it mean?? As You can see I'm a real expert :p

I got it! :smile2: I write what follows because I hope someone can learn from my stupidity:
a couple of months ago I changed the settings enabling "Vary Drive Speed Each Pass". That's when my problems began! Today (don't ask me why I haven't thought about it before) I tried and disabled that option. It worked! Also I still didn't know, after 7 months having purchased dBpoweramp, if my driver supports C-2. I made the test and it came out that it does Well, I still don't know if that is of any benefit. I hope it is!
STILL, I really don't understand how a great Program like dBpoweramp can offer an option like "Vary Drive Speed" if this only causes problems!!
I'll keep on using the driver of my laptop as long it gives me Accurate-results. I really hope I'm right considering an Accurate-result as a guarantee for a successful rip and a good-working drive. If I'm not please tell me!

It is drive specific, most drives would not have problems with the drive speed being changed on undamaged discs...

An AccurateRip match is guarantee of a good rip, no matter what settings are used.
