    problem with encoding Flac secure

    hello,

I am trying to encode in a secure mode my CD and I am encountering some problems, I would appreciate any help/indication where to look for

1./ the results of my secure encoding seems to be fine looking at the logs but while playing with Foobar for instance, I hear only noise

    Secure:
Information ripping to FLAC, 'Track 1' to 'C:\Users\thomas\Music\myLibrary\Lisa Ekdahl\Heaven, Earth & Beyond\01 Lisa Ekdahl - Rivers of Love.flac'
    Track 1: Ripped LBA 0 to 19124 (4:14) in 3:51. Filename: C:\Users\thomas\Music\myLibrary\Lisa Ekdahl\Heaven, Earth & Beyond\01 Lisa Ekdahl - Rivers of Love.flac
    Secure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 1]
    CRC32: 94B43E8B AccurateRip CRC: AF769972 (CRCv2) [DiscID: 017-0028458a-01fae9e7-f20e9f11-1]

2./ while I am doing the same but not in a secure mode on a clean CD (Burst I get a file which plays fine
    CRC 69F7E49F
    Accurate (4)

--> any idea of what could be wrong. I followed the configuration of secure rip but did not succeed t make it work so far

thx in advance & best regards
    Thomas

If it reports as a secure rip and you're hearing noise then, without knowing more details about your settings, it's possible consistent read errors slipped through.

Even if "Secure Mode", it's standard operating procedure to make one pass in burst. If AccurateRip can verify the track, then it moves on to the next track.

Is it only 1 CD that gives the noise?

The album was released by BMG in 2002, at a time when BMG was often using the Cactus Data Shield, a "copy protection", meaning the CD could be defective by design. There is a dedicated defective-by-design mode, but some of those "protected" discs do in fact rip perfectly well, and verify as Accurate, using burst mode - because burst is a happy-go-lucky that ignores all warning signs.

If you want to find out what happens, there are a few things you could do:

        - Rip the very same track twice using Secure mode. Does it return the same CRC? (Then it should turn green!)

        - UNcheck the "interpolate over unrecoverable frames" option. It is very rare that this is of any help, as it has to interpolate a full frame.

        - And:

Increase the number of ultra passes, and see whether it starts to rip individual frames. Say, 4 passes (stop after 3 that agree).
