Ripping and CD Resurfacing

What is known about resurfacing a CD and how well does it work overall? How well do they sound? How well do they rip with this CD ripper? I've seen lots of Amazon and eBay listings referring to resurfacing on a CD being sold. Honestly resurfacing is new to me. I've done my bathtub and my kitchen tops but never my CD's.

Resurfacing can work as long as the damage is on the bottom of the disc, not the top. If you hold the disc up to the light and see scratches that let light through the disc, then you can't repair it.
