can you rip a CD to your laptop that is a ripped CD to begin with? and if so, how?

You mean a burnt CD-R or CD-RW? Just like usual. But if you have burnt your own compilation, or not made sure you got gaps right, then do not expect dBpoweramp to find metadata for you.
