CD Ripper not using AccurateRip on some CDs

I've just completely removed and reinstalled dBpoweramp per the instructions given in a thread a few days ago. (See Metadata available on one computer but not the other) I have fully reconfigured the CD ripper (C2 pointers, AccurateRip, etc.) and then screwed around with a new problem introduced by R14.3 ("The Flirtations" come out as "Flirtations, The"). Got that sorted (I think), Ripped a CD with proper metadata and AccurateRip. Finally on my way ... but no. Tried to rip that 100 song compilation set. Getting metadata now, and the CD(s) are in AccurateRip. However, when I start to rip, the CD ripper goes into a multi-pass secure rip and won't use AccurateRip. GRRR.

This has to be one of the most popular CD sets in the country where I bought it - every household with kids has a copy, as did the nursing home where I performed some of the songs I learned off the CD. The idea that I have something odd or a pressing that AccurateRip hasn't seen yet isn't likely. AccurateRip even offers to use it as a key disc (though I didn't use this CD to configure AccurateRip on the re-install).

I also tried it in my other computer, and got the same result. I also tried a popular American CD in my primary ripping computer and it used AccurateRip as expected. What is going on here? Am I going to have a problem with every CD I bought with non-Latin (English) characters in the title? That is what this is beginning to look like.

We cannot delve into AccurateRip to check individual CDs, as there are 2M discs in AccuarateRip with a variety of pressings, 25% of the discs you have are not checking then that is a problem we can check, but not a single CD.

Well, if we want to go by percentages, lets look at the numbers. Of the 4 CDs I've tried, 75% have failed as I have described. Of the failures, 100% have titles in a non-Latin alphabet. Whether that is significant to how AccurateRip works I cannot say. Of those failures, 33% (or perhaps 66%) are AccurateRip "key" discs. These failures are repeatable on two different machines, so corruption of CD Ripper's program or internal data files is an unlikely cause.

I would say those are fairly significant numbers.

Spoon, as I get back to this project, I am noticing really inconsistent results with regard to AccurateRip lookup. I am re-ripping some of the CD's to pick up missing metadata. As I do this, some CD's that were not in AccurateRip the first time are there now. Equally baffling, CDs that were in AccurateRip the first time are not there now. Obviously, the lookup algorithm is flakey. Whether this is a problem with dbpoweram or the AccurateRip database I cannot say, but it certainly makes no sense that a CD is in the database one day and then not the next.

The problem is not related to a non-latin alphabet. I just had the problem on a CD with all English characters.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Doesn't explain why AccurateRip can't be accessed now for CDs that were in the database before.

I know it was only on one (English) CD, but the metadata and track listing came up in what appeared to be Polish, even though listed as being in AccurateRip! It plays OK though.

Despite what I said earlier, I doubt that metadata has anything to do with AccurateRip (other than they both might be using the same disc signature methodology as a search key to the respective databases). I was basically grasping at straws trying to supply any information that might explain why a disc that is found in AccurateRip one time won't be found the next time.

For a disc that says is not in accuraterip, press the refresh button (say 10 times) each time it is relooked up.

I have a feeling the disc might be been removed from accuraterip (if you submitted it and it conflicted with the previous entry, the disc is put on hold until a 3rd party verifies either).

Accurate Rip has operated for 10 years, this is the first instance we have heard of it having flaky lookups.
