Dumb Question I know, but I forgot.....Replay Gain.

About to rip some cd's on my new computer and I can't remember if I had replay Gain setup correctly.
What exactly will it do? Fix the Volume level? What should I set it on? What do most of you guys do?

It normally writes ID Tags, which can be used by a compatible player.

In short: It tries to match the perceived loudness of audio files of different sources, and doesn't modify the audio stream stored in a file, stores as tags the calculated boost/reduction to apply, which a compatible player apply during playing.

You can calculate those values during ripping process, through the DSP ReplayGain. I always calculate and apply the album mode. If you want to calculte ReplayGains values of already ripped files, use the scanning function offered by several players (Foobar2000, Winamp...).

And you are just adding RG values (track and album) to your tags. You are not modifying the actual audio saved. Players can use these tags.
