When secure ripping doesn't succeed (using dbpa Reference 14.2), then what?

I would like to rip tracks that are insecure IF they won't contain loud clicks or other material that could damage my stereo or my ears.

I'm not sure how to judge this, or how to proceed. (I thought this would be a FAQ, but if so, I've missed it.)

Suggestions?

If you enable logging with the Complete option, you can check the report at the end and it will tell you the time offset of the error, you can look at the audio in an audio editor (such as Audacity), zoom in on the section looking for spikes. Many CD drives silence the errors out.

If you have access to a second CD drive, try ripping the disc in that one.

I often have discs (one in twenty) that won't rip securely in one drive. The other drive will rip the disc flawlessly.

Great idea. Now that I have heard it sometimes works, I'll get that second drive.

I thought I'd mention that I picked up a used external LiteOn drive. This rips great, including most discs that the internal ASUS drive wouldn't handle. It is really helpful to have two drives to try.
