Need a rip with AAC extension instead of m4a

May be I'm missing something?

I want an Apple Losless rip. I ripped an audio file and got a file with m4a extension. However, I want to get a rip with an AAC extension, but not by usinge the Nero codec.

Any help appreciated!

Choose 'Apple Lossless' as the encoder, .m4a is the correct file type for Apple Lossless.

A .aac file is not a lossless file, it is an AAC encoded file.

BUT, in a specific case I NEED an AAC file, rather than an m4a file. I understand I've to forget in this situation the "lossless" encoder.

Is there any possiblity to rip an audio file into AAC, without using the Nero encoder? Or should I use iTunes for this specific situation? I hope not!

If you look in codec central there is an AAC encoder

As an alternative to reripping, it is possible to extract the AAC stream from the .m4a without transcoding. ffmpeg can do this if you pass the commands
- i infile.m4a -acodec copy outfile.aac
The '-acodec copy' part will then grab the audio stream and put it in the outfile.
