Problem with CD Ripper

Program worked fine for a while ripping into FLAC (re WAVE see below). Then, when trying to ripp (FLAC or WAVE, mostly this latter) I get a notice saying program stopped working, directing me to go to the web for a solution which accomplshes nothing. The notice goes away, ripping appears to continue and notice comes out again a few more times until finall process stops with CD drive continuing to rotate at full sppedd--had to cancell ripping and eject CD. I unistalled and reinstalled program to no avail. Incidentally, when program appeared to work initially, WAVE files were ripped (some upsampled) without any error warning or problem notice, but when played through my media player all I get is continuos loud white noise...I though it was some problem with my media player being able to handle WAVE files created by your ripping program (it plays perfectly WAVE files created with rippers from other sources). But now I am inclined to think that maybe it is a malfunction in your ripper in itself or because the way I install/configure it in my computer. I am using Windows 7.

Try disabling upsampling.

Also update your DSP effects to the lastst.

Thanks, Spoon. How do you disable "upsampling"? Is this related to which of my problems? Problem No 1, program stopping operation in middle of ripping session (as described) happens while trying to rip into both FLAC or Wave, regardless of sampling rate. That is, it also happens while ripping CD to Wave or Flac at 16/44.1 settings in the corresponding DSP effects windows.

Regarding your advice to download most recent version of DSP effects, I cannot find any reference as to a version in the downloaded exe file for DSP effects, but I downloaded it 3 days ago, directly from your site, so I gather it should be the most recent version. In any event, to which problem is this related ...or it could be related to both? Regarding problem No 2, getting a blast of white noise when trying to play Wave files, what do you make of it? Incidentally, all metadata and file information shows complete in monitoring screen.

If you downloaded 3 days ago then you have the latest.

Try ripping to test conversion, does it crash then?

Does it crash on all CDs or just some?

To further clarify, Spoon, I am playing ripped files using a media player as a standalone device feeding it (through USB 2 port) Wav/Flac files stored in large capacity USB 2 memory sticks. WAVE files (ripped before Ripper started malfunctioning), regardless of sample/bit rate, play perfectly out of the USB memory stick when attached to my Windows 7 computer, but not at all (white noise) when memory stick is connected to media player. In contrast, FLAC files stored in USB memory sticks play perfectly when connected to either computer or media player.

I guess, for the sake of afficiency and effectiveness, the two problems should be addressed separately, starting with the program (Ripper) stopping operation in middle of a ripping session. As I said, program starts to work when first launched, then (after 1 or two tracks) a notice pop up informing program stopped working, then, starts working again for a short while, another not working notice pops up, starts to work again (2 or 3 times), and then stops for good with CD still spinning at full speed, forcing cancellation of session and manual ejection of CD to stop spinning.

I would rip to your HDD, then later move the files to USB stick.

Spoon, that is exactly what I have been doing all along. However, I have also tried the reverse of what you suggest, ripping directly to memory stick but same results with white noise...of course, now I cannot test any thing re noise outcome because program stops working (as explained) and ripping session has to be aborted.

It is also likely the ID Tags in the WAVE file are causing the netgear to produce static (as it is not designed correctly to read wave files...), you can disable ID Tags in dBpoweramp configuration >> Codecs >> Advanced Settings >> WAVE ID Tagging.

Thanks, Spoon. But before I can try your suggestions I have to get program to work...remember, I have two problems.

In any event, if I read you correctly, Spoon, what you are saying is that the netgear wave decoder or reader is not properly designed to handle all wave protocols, right?

I am trying to help you get CD Ripper to work, in CD Ripper set the encoder as Test Conversion and try ripping a CD.

Sorry, Spoon, I get you now. Tought you were only addressing white noise through netgear problem. Your first suggestion is for interrupted ripping session problem and second one for white noise problem. Thanks, Spoon
