Error trying to Rip immaculate CD

    Hello,

Just bought DBpoweramp and having trouble trying to rip a CD to ALAC.

The whole album rips fine apart from the last track that has a lengthy silence before any audio.

Have set-up secure rip as advised here is the error i get

Information ripping to Apple Lossless, 'Track 14' to 'E:\Ripped\AFI\Sing the Sorrow\14 AFI - Now the World.m4a'
** Reached Maximum 1 Unrecoverable Frames For This Track
    Track 14: Ripped LBA 217339 to 286232 (15:18) in 0:53. Filename: E:\Ripped\AFI\Sing the Sorrow\14 AFI - Now the World.m4a
    Insecure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 1, Re-Rip 40 Frames]
    CRC32: 3C3AFC92 AccurateRip CRC: 5F3D2660 (CRCv2) [DiscID: 014-001b494b-0128ad8a-cd0ee80e-14]
** Reached Maximum 1 Unrecoverable Frames For This Track

Any suggestions to get it to work? CD is brand new no scratches or finger prints anywhere on it.

    Thanks

Track 14 has an unrecoverable error, that is it cannot be ripped with out error, you can either:

    get a new disc
get a different CD drive (sometimes helps)
rip in burst mode and ignore the error (it might be very small)

      Thankyou

How accurate is the burst method?

Itunes rips this CD fine and the track has no audible errors when ripped this way through my DAC and hifi

Burst is as accurate as iTunes, in that it does not report the error. iTunes ripping is like sticking your head in the sand, as iTunes will not tell you there was an issue ripping (instead the CD drive will interpolate the error to silence, that is why you cannot hear the error it is small as you are listening for a pop, not silence).

But ive listened to the track with the error and there is no audible silence pause or anything in the track.

I also tried re-ripping the track and the error moved from 0.53 to 1.07 im guessing this is the time in the track it appears?

Something is not quite right. Itunes takes a lot longer to encode ALAC from my CD's as well where as DBpoweramp just seems to charge through.

I'm just starting to rebuild my music collection from CD as i lost all my rips from before to a massive error in backups by myself. All my disks are perfect and well looked after i dont see why any would throw up errors like this has.

Manufacturing defects, you disc can not have a scratch yet give errors.

Okay - so sometimes these errors aren't that bad then?

Will try some more and see what is / isnt thrown up by DBpoweramp

An error could be 1 sample or 1000 samples with an error. dBpoweramp in the secure log will tell where the error is so you can listen to the track at that point.

Where can i find this information in the error log?

The time i thought was a time stamp is just the time taken to rip the track.

Have now made logs complete

                  Edit :

Found it - thanks for your help

                    Just to add a note:

I am converting a cd library for a radio station so I've worked with thousands of disks so far and I'm still in the prototype phase, the current library is estimated at 60k disks.

Manufacturing errors on pressed disks are VERY common and when you find a "hard" error, one that doesn't change when you move to a different drive, it's a pressing error and a significant number of disks in the batch lot will have the same error. I've seen all copies of the same disk (they get duplicates, sometimes 4 or 5 of them) show exactly the same problems.

Spoon is very right in suggesting trying a different cd drive, I've seen disks not be recognized as audio cd's by one drive and rip perfectly in another.

                      Thanks,

I have now found 3 disc with error out of 100 so far and with my headphones on i cannot hear anything at the error position thrown up by DBpoweramp so am happy with the rips :D

I was just worried that these errors meant that my CD's were broken or badly scratched and un-readable when they aren't

Have finally got decent rips from these CD's that are giving me a headache.

used IMG burn and made copies of the original and ripped the copies got no errors :D

Yes but when IMG burn made the copies it will have encountered the errors and silently interpolated them. You have perfect rips of copies with errors in the the data.

Right I have now bought copies of the discs I had errors with as was only about 8 of them. Getting the same error in the same tracks. :thumbdown

                            What gives?

Sounds like a problem during CD manufacturing. This happens occasionally.

Any slight defects in a CD will give errors. A CD player will interpolate any mssing samples, so, in most cases you will not hear a problem.

Unfortunately, one cannot assume that CD technology is perfect.
