    2 Pass Secure

Hello everyone. I’ve just gotten the software tonight after using EAC for about a year and need some help.

I am backing up a lot of CDs (500 odd). I spent some time looking at all the options available for Lame Mp3, VBR, -V1.

Having ripped around 20 CDs now, the last two both Amy Winehouse CDs seem to do a 2pass encode. I’ve no idea why and having tried a few more CD the encode has gone back to 1pass. Can someone please advise how I can ensure all rip’s are 2pass... I can't even see an option for it.

Also can someone explain the Rip Status to me, I’ve had every thing from Accurate 2 to Accrate 18 and on the 2pass files Secure. Although I’ve not changed any settings so why are the results so varied?

If AccurateRip is verifying the rip, you do not need the 2nd pass.

I'd highly recommend reading this guide. I found it very useful when starting out with dbpoweramp a few days ago.

As spoon says, its likely that your 1-pass rips are being verified by accuraterip, which means they're already 100% accurate and don't need a 2nd pass.

The number next to the word 'Accurate' is the number of people who have the same checksum for any given track. so Accurate (2) means your track checksum matches 2 other peoples, meaning its definitely a good rip.

Thank you for the guide and the information that makes more sense. I assumed it was somehow grading my mp3s... and 2 would be quite a low grade.

The only other question I have is about cover art. Ive download the cover art using the built in downloader at 1000pxl and its resized to 500x500. I am happy with that but the file size of the image gets BIGGER than the original file. Which means I am writing an extra data to each file for no good reason.

The file size shouldn't be bigger if the image is being cut by half, unless its a different file format.

Thanks to that guide I see there are options for max res image size.... so I will have a play. If writing 1000pxl images ends up being smaller than allowing the program to resize them I just do that.

Unless anyone knows of a compression option? I'd rather not write an extra 200kb to each file for no good reason.

edit: So from what Ive found, if the program ever has to resize an image it will always make the files size bigger.... I set 750pxl as my max and used a 1000pxl image and it when from 140kb to 320kb!

So its best to just write the 1000pxl image. Or resize them all yourself and add from a dir.

        edit 2:
Just so I am sure, 1000pxl pictures are not written to the mp3 file... they're just used a "folder".

anyway this is one great bit of software, best mp3 coder Ive ever used in fact.

The 1000 pixel art might have been highly compressed (jpeg can be compressed, so a 1000x1000 art could be 500KB or 100KB), the 500x500 resize is not as compressed, if that makes sense.
