Problems with track

I was ripping a new CD, Kings and Queens by Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Got to track 10, ripped fine, but hung at 99% encoded. Let it stew for a bit, but had to force dbp to shut down, it was hung. Tried again, same thing, same track. Restarted the computer. Ripped the remainder of the tracks on the CD, no problem. Tried to rip track 10 by itself, with error recovery (previous attempts in burst), same result.

Gave up and ripped the track, no problems, with WMP, to WMA lossless. Converted to flac (using dbp) no problems. Of course, WMP screwed up the tags and I had to manually redo.

So, I wonder what was happening with that ONE track that gave dbp so much trouble?

Track 10 is at the end of the disc?

No, it's 10 of 14. I was able to rip the remaining four tracks without incident, so overall could rip 13 of 14 with dbp.

Not an issue at the moment, because I was able to rip lossless using WMP, but I am more concerned about dbp hanging, and ultimately locking my whole system, while trying to encode this track.

I should note that there were partial files saved (both of this track, presumably representing my re-attempt to rip), but without any tags. I didn't try to play them, just deleted.

Try ripping that disc to Test Conversion, does it lock up?

As noted, the problem arose during encoding -- I use multi-encoder, MP3 and FLAC. The whole track would rip, and then hang during encoding. Files were written to both the MP3 and FLAC location, but these were incomplete -- no tags.

Only ever happened on that one track, and happened repeatedly on that track.

Very odd, you would have to remove mp3, and then flac from multi encoder to find which is causing the lock up.

If it turns out to be mp3, what happens if you convert just the flac file to mp3 and flac?

Not at my home computer now, but will check out of curiousity the flac vs mp3 issue.

Since the hang seemed to happen during encoding of tags (i.e. files were written but tagless), I wonder if its something in the tag structure for this album. The downloaded tags have a single album artist, but every track has multiple track artists (it's a duets album).

I could not replicate the problem this evening. The entire album re-ripped appropriately.

The only thing I noticed was different was that the other day it took a very long time to retrieve album information from the databases; today it was instantaneous as usual. Perhaps something with the tag structure.

Will monitor.
