I recently started ripping CDs in anticipation of acquiring a Linn DS unit. When I brought a selection of tracks to a dealer to verify that I was doing this right, I found that all of my rips sounded loud and a somewhat compressed compared to the dealer's rips of the same CDs. The same was true comparing my rips to the original CDs (at the same volume).
Neither the dealer nor I have any DSP effects installed. We're both ripping using the current software to FLAC.
The dealer is using compression level 8 and burst ripping. I'm using secure ripping and compression level 5. Other than that, everything's the same.
My ripped files were transported as a folder on a data DVD-R.
I've scoured the help files and the forums. I can only imagine there's something obvious that I'm missing.
