FLAC encoding suddenly very slow

I have been using dbpoweramp for a couple of weeks and probably ripped 100 cds very successfully. Today, I ripped about 6 CDs fine but then the next one seemed to getalmost totally hung up at the FLAC encoding stage (e.g., after 10 minutes, I have four CPUs encoding reading 13, 6, 3 and 0% complete. I have not changed any settings. I retried with another CD - same problem. Restarted the PC - same problem. Any ideas?

Try ripping to Test conversion, note the speed, then try Wave, note the speed.
