Different offset for ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U

Hi everyone,

I've been using AccurateRip with Exact Audio Copy for a few years now, and except for an older ASUS drive that returned different offsets each time thanks to a 'buggy' firmware, I didn't encounter any issues configuring it on my other drives.

However, AccurateRip isn't letting me configure the newest drive I bought for my laptop, which is an external ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U (firmware seems to be C102) that is connected via USB. Upon my first use of the drive, it told me to use a key disc for offset verification, which I did. Then, I had to repeat with two more key discs, which gave the same results as well. However, AccurateRip refuses to use the detected offset, even though it was verified three times, because the one stored in your database is different than mine (+103 instead of +6).

Why isn't AccurateRip letting me use the +6 offset even though it is verified? I understand the value is different than the one in your database, but that's probably because the firmware on my drive is different, maybe because of a different hardware revision of the unit or whatever. I thought the offset detection mechanism using three key discs was there specifically for cases like that.

I also tried on a different computer with an evaluation copy of dbPowerAmp R14, and the exact same scenario repeats itself.

Because drives are supposed to have the same offset, nine other people have the +103 offset.

Next update (next month) I can purge this drive if you can convince me the discs you are keying off are not part of a box set and key normally on a different drive.

All drives should have the same offet, but is that true even after a firmware upgrade?

Yeah, I'd appreciate if you could reset the offset for this drive.

All three discs were verified accurately with a Lite-On drive, LTC-48161H with firmware KH0R. I can post the results if needed to convince you.

The three discs are :

Rottrevore - Iniquitous (Drowned Records 1993)
Wench - A Tidy Sized Chunk (MetalCore Records 1990)
Sacrifice - Put Her On The Altar (Devil's Metal 2008)

I realize those are obscure discs though, so if you want me to redo the test with more common CDs, let me know. If you have some heavy metal CDs, give me a few titles and if I have them, I'll redo the test with the ASUS drive to compare. I have almost all CDs by bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, etc. On the other hand, those may not be the best choices as there are many pressings available, so other CDs on smaller labels (Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Massacre, etc.) are also a possibility, I have hundreds of them. If you're not into metal though, nevermind, I'll pick discs myself. ;-)

I confirm blavoie77's information! My new drive ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U shows the same read offset value (+6) with some key discs.

Well, same problem here... AccurateRip tells me that the discs I'm trying to use to configure it are different than the ones in its database. I used the same records in another device (Jeff Beck - Wired; The Band - Northern Lights Southern Cross) and I hadn't any issue. Then, I went to EAC using an universal offset disc and it gave me a +6. Then I burned another offset disc with the ASUS device and it gave me a 0. So I calculated 0 - 6 = -6 = writting offset. But I want to use dbpoweramp, and on contrary to EAC, I can't configure the reading offset by hand (just using AccurateRip). I'm still wondering what's the problem with this device???

As long as the drive has a constant offset (and all do in the last 10 years( then it will configure if you feed enough discs through.
