    Inaccurate but secure

What does it mean when the results log says a rip is inaccurate and secure?

Generally speaking, it means your rip does not match other submissions, but no errors were detected in ripping.

Other implications are possible, but only if you post exactly what was reported in the results log for each track for the ripped disc, and if you post your ripping method settings (all the way down through the submenus for ripping method as well - these settings may be in the header of the results log).

I have not changed the program ripping defaults. I examined them, and ultra secure ripping is not checked.

For these two tracks it is likely your rip has errors, but you cannot be 100% sure (with a confidence of only 2 for the other tracks, if it was 3 then there would be no question your rip has errors).

Are C2 pointers turned on? There are lots of opinions on the use of C2, but if your disc drive supports it, I think you are better off using it because it will likely decrease the chance of undetected errors. You also want to disable the use of your disc cache so that re-rips read the disc again rather than read the cache.

Spoon, I had previously thought that a confidence of 2 or more was great, because there was very, very little chance that two or more other submitters would have the exact same error on their rips. To put it another way, it would be far more likely that two submitters with the same result and with the same error had discs with a pressing error, than it would that they each had the same ripping error.

          Is that still the case?

            Re: Inaccurate but secure

There is a chance the same guy ripped the same disc on 2 computers, a positive match of Accurate (1) is all that is needed, but if there is a miss-match you have to rule out there was an error with the other guys, confidence of 3 pretty much assumes that.

Hi....a new trial user here. Plan on registering when trial period is up.

This software has been working pretty much flawlessly for me until one of my last rips. I too got a report saying the rip was inaccurate, but secure. It is a 20 bit remastered audio cd from original master. I ripped the full cd and then realized it was not accomplishing what I thought it should be. So, I deleted the full file folder. I reripped 1 track so I could minimally post what is happening. All tracks have the same error code and are identical in reporting, so I figured only one track need be posted with the code. It appears to me that the software is not encoding to 20 bit and is forcing the use of something else, like 16 bit, here. Result is below.

All CDs are 16 bit, there is no such thing as a 20 bit CD (unless it is HDCD encoded).

If all tracks are the same 'AccurateRip: Inaccurate (confidence 2) Secure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 3]'

then you have a different pressing outside the checking range, so AccurateRip cannot be used for that disc.

Geez...what did I just tell you? I have a 20 bit cd and it has no reference to HDCD encoding on the case nor cd itself. On the back of the jewel case on the bottom it STATES "20-Bit Digital Mastering From The Original Master Tapes: 2000" I can understand if I can't use AccurateRip because it is bombing on the cd. But, don't tell me there is not such a thing as a 20-bit cd when I have it in my hand and it does not say it is HDCD.

There would have been a coding in that post saying HDCD is detected and there isn't. I noticed one track on "Words and Music: John Mellencamps's Greatest Hits" has that coding "HDCD detected." This disk did not report that. It dumped track 5 and 8 into a crash bin in my directory. This disk plays in my players so I don't get it.

Obviously, on the bottom of the report it asks "different pressing?" I guess it would be then and I've got one! Thanks anyway, I try something else!

What it means is they mastered the CD in 20-bit, then the CD was created which was reduced to 16 bit, there is no such thing as a 20 bit CD, as standard CD players can only play 16 bit, they do not know about 20 bit CDs...

Basically it is a marketing con, you can search the internet for it.

If the CD is an audio CD. i.e. CD-DA or CDDA, then it will conform to the Red Book standard which is 16-bit only.

None the less, whatever they did, the cd won't rip. Why? Because it is a newer print which is not in Accurip database, or what? I had another one do the same thing on the final track of a cd. It coded it AR 2 Secure. All tracks were fine until the final track and it did something different.

Not really innacurate, so it probably doesn't belong in this thread, but oh well. Here is another anomaly I am not familiar with or know what it means. The disk is "Rolling Stones: Goat's Head Soup." IT IS a 2009 cd. New. Accurip appears it is verifying this disk with an old transfer. The other 3 disks from the Stones with the same year seem to be picking up the correct version in the database except for "Goat's Head Soup." What is up as I am new to the terminology used in the reports.

The report also said it was using an "offset." I know it probably isn't using the right version to verify as the other three cd's had low numbers and this one had a relatively high number associated with it. How are the new versions added and verified as to know that they are identical when moving from new to old bersions?

                        Here is the report.

There is nothing wrong with the last log you posted, all tracks ripped correctly and verified (using a pressing offset, if it did not use the pressing offset it would not verify).
