    Meta data

    Hi,

I love dbpower amp for ripping. But I have one issue with the metadata.

I am ripping a huge collection of classical music and I need to edit every tag. I get that this is a must for classical, but why on earth does every database have and entry like: Gustav Mahler??

I find I always have to delete the "Gustav" as it just makes sense to look for Mahler and not Gustav. For the ones like Strauss I can just put a comma and the name.

Anyhow when I delete the "gustav" for instance and rip the disk, the next disk I put in comes up "Brahms" for a bit and then it searches the databases and it switches to Johannes Brahms.

Is there a way to bend the databases to my will??

There is no real way of doing what you require as each disc is independent.

      Re: Meta data

I figured that would be the answer.

But I am not making things clear I suppose.

The program DOES make the changes before it looks up the info.

      Example:

I have 2 disks to rip, one by Gustav Mahler, and one from Johannes Brahms.

I put in the first disk by Mahler and then delete the "Gustav" part.

When the rip is finished and I put in the Brahms disk, it shows "Brahms" and then there is a message at the top that pops up that begins with "Id Tag" followed by a list of databases (this is it polling the databases afaict). When that message disappears, "Brahms" is no longer and now it says "Johannes Brahms"!!

This thing is playing with me .

Is there a way to have it not reset?

you can have it not pull meta-data from those sources. I don't know how you disc was showing any meta-data before contacting the databases.

+1. You understand that dbpa is polling several metadata sources (perfect meta) and then using the "best" (not sure how it works, maybe the most common across the sources, etc.). You can click on the metadata sources and see all the sources and what each one has used for things like composer, artist, etc.

Only spoon knows the exact algorithm he is using. However, basically you are correct, its looking for matches from multiple sources. If sources don't agree, the sources have different weights, and AMG has the most weight.

and to the OP, I think you can turn off some of the sources if you want (if there are some you prefer more). Myself, I just clean up the tag info just before I rip to be exactly what I want (you can do this manually on the ripping screen). This usually takes only a minute or so.

                Thanks.

I thought it was weird too that the initial data is correct before the databases are queried. Looks like it is just manual editing for me.

Why anyone would want to sort by composers FIRST name is beyond me....

tagging standards seem to be designed for mostly pop music. Even there, why I'd want to search for Willie Nelson instead of Nelson, Willie is a question. However, there are artistsort fields to deal with this sort of thing if one wants.
