Slow Rip Speed

I rip in Secure Mode. Most of my CDs rip very quickly but some drop down to about 2x aqnd take a long time to rip. Is there any way I can avoid this? Is tere any reason why this occurs?

I might add that this seems to happen on my better audiophile cds. My oldest most scratched cds all rip OK. Another thing I would like to question is that after ripping the final encoding can take up to 5-10 minutes to happen. It sort of freezes and then all of a sudden it happens. Most of the time it happens normally but some times it will take up to 10 minutes. Was wondering why?

It is your CD drive which decides which speed to rip the whole CD.
