Best external drive to rip audio CDs with

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommand me a good external drive to rip CD's with ? Current using a samsung laptop and getting a few CD's not ripping and a few re-rips when the disc are ok or not that badly scratched. Its driving me up the wall !! Hoping a good drive might help. A drive i can get hold of from amazon say, would be good.

Thank you everyone for any help given.

    See:

CD/DVD Drive Accuracy List 2011 AccurateRip collects data from all drives, normally this is only used to verify a disc is accurate, but can be reversed to calculate which drives are the most accurate (as measured by lowest % inaccurate tracks). This test was previously run in 2009 and 2006, as time goes on more

Are any of these external drives and where's the best place to get one from ?

Getting frustrated, got CD's that are about 10 years old and look fine but keep going to re-rip. Tried different drive speeds, C2 on/off...a think padT410 laptop drive (Work laptop) as well as my Samsung. Don't know why. Thinking a good drive might help.

You would be best buying any two cheap different CD drives (look on accuraterip.com and make sure the drives have different offsets), it is often the difference in manufacturer which helps on certain discs, or put another way there is not a single drive which will read all the discs, where as a handful of drives will (as long as the discs are not damaged).

The disc's look fine. Maybe the odd light scratch but in general are ok. Just frustrating not being able to get them ripped.

What about best models ? Sony, Pioneer ?

Just to note i'm currently using two different drives, one with an offset of +6 and the other of +102

Would another drive help ? I'm guessing drives that come with laptop are usually pretty average.

A 3rd drive would help, go for a 5.25" drive and put in an external USB enclosure, then you could have your pick of the best drives on the accuracy list.

Spoon, would this do the trick, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/198213 ?

Are my problems due to reading the disc ? The re-rips are very frustrating. The Discs are not scratched very much if at all.

Yes it would work, you would need a SATA CD drive.

Whats the best new sata drive around ? The list you have is for older drives which are hard to get hold of.
