Ripping Classical CDs

I have no issues with ripping my pop/jazz CDs into FLAC but is there a guide on ripping classical works with dbPoweramp?

Sometime symphonies are spread across 2 CDs and you'd really want to not have to get up and select CD2 to continue on my Squeezebox touch.

You can manually set the disc to 1/1 for both albums, then make sure there is no disc number added to the end of the album name.

Then for the 2nd album, right click on track 1 and add a track number offset of +100

On reading some of the proper way to tag clasical CDs, this is what is recommended.

1.Use the "Album" tag to identify a Work - E.g. "Beethoven Symphony no. 5 - Karajan"
2.Use the "Artist" tag to identify the composer - e.g. "Beethoven"
3.Use the "Title" to identify the movement - e.g. "Beethoven Symp 5 - 3 - Allegro"


I can do the above in dbpoweramp with the 'Artist' field and the 'Album' field underneath the Artist field.

What I don't know then is that there is another 'Artist' field on the far right hand side after the 1/1 field, from memory. What do I type in there? Or how to use item 3 in dbpoweramp?

Album artist is the main artist for the whole disc.

So, if it's one main artist say Eric Clapton, I should put Eric Clapton in both the Artist field and the Album Artist field.

So, in terms of a compilation CD, I should leave Album Artist blank?

If it's a classical CD in the example above, I should type in Karajan in the Album Artist field?

I am using Squeezebox Server software to manage all the above.

For compilations I use "Various Artists" unless it is a soundtrack where I use "Soundtrack".

I paste and copy this quote/unquote from some in the Squeezebox forum. How can I achieve this in dbpoweramp? I already have an folder in my NAS called Various Artists where all my compilations (1 disk) are. I would need to achieve the following for 2 disks sets.

For compilations I use "Various Artists" .

That's what I do now. For compilation, in dbpoweramp, in the Artist field I put Various Artists and in the Album Artist field I also put Various Artists.

And disable the option in Options >> Metdata & ID Tags to put , [disc] into the album name.

I currently have in the Naming Field "Save in dynamic Artist folder'.Am I to add the above in that field. By doing this, what will happen to my existing naming conventions or how would your suggestion above affect non Various Artists CDs?

What do you mean Spoon? Just using the FLAC encoder if that is what you're after.

Is there a spot on your website that give details of all the fields in dbpoweramp and explanation on how/when to use them? Fields like, Disc no. 1/1 etc Say if I select 1/2 at the time of ripping a 2 disk set, how would the tags be etc? I can't seem to find these explanation on your site.

If you set 1/2 then which tags are written are dependant on the audio format, for flac it is split to 2 fields, discnumber and disccount

Click the Naming button and paste in the string I gave, normal cds are not effected.
