I just started using dBpoweramp, after years with EAC. I have a couple of very basic questions about usage and setup. Sorry if they're covered somewhere - I promise I've looked around...
I ripped a couple of retail discs right away without changing settings (so insecure, with AccurateRip). They all came up "Accurate" ... so far so good.
Then I ripped a home-burned CD. It's pretty old so it's easy to imagine it has scratches/defects/problems. Tracks 1,6,10,11,12 all came up "Inaccurate (5)" while all the rest were "Accurate (5)". OK, great - so I'm probably seeing errors on the disc.
I looked around to find a setup guide and found this page, and started looking at how to set up for secure ripping. I wasn't able to follow everything in the guide, but I made a few changes and chose "Secure (Recover Errors)".
One thing that confused me was detecting/setting the cache size. When I downloaded and ran cachex.exe it reports:
Drive on F is Optiarc DVD RW AD-7240S 1.00
[+] Buffer size: 2048 kB, read cache is enabled
[+] Supported read commands: BEh A8h(FUA) 28h(FUA) D4h(FUA) D5h(FUA) D8h(FUA)
[+] Testing cache line size:
4 kB / 2 sectors
4 kB / 2 sectors
4 kB / 2 sectors
4 kB / 2 sectors
But when I run dBpoweramp's Detect Cache feature it reports "6KB (3 sectors)". Am I correct in thinking that it's fine to leave the Drive Read Cache at 6 KB?
Also, when I ran "Test FUA Support", it reported "FUA appears to clear the cache and will be used" even though my drive is not a Plextor. Is it OK to leave that box checked?
OK, while typing this I think I've finished going through the guide and changed settings. I re-ripped the disc, and all the previous accurate tracks still are. But the other tracks now all say "X AR (5) [check] Secure" and they have a green CRC. Except track 6, which has an "i" instead of the check-mark.
I'll post the info log results in the next post so this one won't get too difficult to look at, but only track 6 looks like something maybe went wrong:
AccurateRip: Inaccurate (confidence 5) Secure (Warning) [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 1, Re-Rip 3 Frames]
Can anyone interpret these results for me? Or point me to a guide that explains them? My guess is that 7 tracks passed AccurateRip and 5 tracks failed. Of those 5, 4 were declared OK after the second "ultra" pass, and they were ripped securely so I can trust them even if they don't match the AccurateRip database. I don't know what to make of track 6 that has the warning...
