    Ripping quits halfway

I have a problem that may not be dbPoweramp ripper's fault: it gets halfway through a CD, everything A-OK, and then will not go another inch -- just tries and tries, the drive cycling, everything turning up errors. I had the same behavior with a totally unrelated program -- ImgBurn -- which got to 52% and then failed. My CD drive apparently works, at least most of the time, and my music CD player has no problem playing the disc. I've had similar problems with other CDs. I'm using Windows Vista with a relatively new and powerful Dell XPS laptop. Anyone else know anything about this insanely frustating behavior?

It is the CD drive refusing to read the disc, try skipping the track it gets stuck on to see if the later tracks can be ripped.
