    Doing on the fly will only work if the volume is reduced after setting as 24 bit (to create that extra room above). Really any equalization should be done by the player and not stored to the original files, as bumping up the lower frequencies does not 'sound a good' idea in the long run (what if you get some speakers which are more bass heavy in the future?)

      well, eq is done after the player. I wold like to stick 16bits into the lower bits of 24bit word to avoid clipping during equalized playback. is there any way to do this?
