I've been trying the CD ripper, and one day it just decides to report error for every track. This driver worked before. It started acting up after I was playing around the "read into lead in and lead out" and "communication" setting on the other SCSI drives NEC multispin 2x. Does anyone know what might have gone wrong?

Ah, found it. Somehow the "communication" setting got changed. But is there any explanation what the different communication settings mean?

This is funny, some of the "options" settings are drive dependent, and some seem global like the "communications".

The ones drive dependant are shown in a different background color. For most people the only option you need for communication is SCSI Pass Through (first option).

even for SCSI drives under different LUNs? this is the drive numbers that show up. Only the last communication option seems to rip, but it never passes secure checks.

Other communication options, I just see rip at x100+ and it just zips through all the files. Certainly wish that was a reality.

What are the exact model of drives?

This a really old one, NEC Multispin 2x meaning it's only twice the speed. Model number CDR C301. Basically it's a 7CD changer even though it shows 7 drive numbers.

Very unlikely it supports most of the modern command set required to rip with dBpoweramp. 2x speed drives must be 15 to 20 years old.

I do have a few more questions:
1. With the default settings, will all the album art to into a NAS drive if I set that as the path? I've tried reripping/overwriting using a different album cover art, but it does not seem to change what jriver sees. Is there any way to change the album cover art?
2. Does resampling actualy convert bit depth from 16bit to 24bit and scale accordingly? Or does it just add bits to increase word size? I have this set in the wave uncompressed encoder and the DSP bit depth, not know what does what.
3. If I use DSP replay gain "calculate replay gain" and "calculate track gain" I assume this does not actually change the scaling in the file?

Album art should be embedded and written as folder.jpg, you should check the Id tags in question.

1. I'm not sure what are Id tags. I browsed through the folders and some have folder.jpg, but some don't. So I'm sitting here scratching my head. I also tried to manually replace a file and let it keep the name "folder.jpg" Nothing changes. So how do I check an Id tag?

2. So what is exactly done when I use DSP to output 24bit and what difference is there if I just use the encoder settings to 24bit? I'm also trying to upsample to 48K from 44.1K. I was assuming since upsampling and bit depth are changing at the same time, there is some sort of recalculation going on.

Right click on a file >> Edit ID Tag

16 >> 24 bit just inserts 000's at the lower bits.

Thanks spoon. Does this give me more headroom when 16 >> 24 bit just inserts 000's at the lower bits? I'm thinking about equalizing during playback, and may need more gain.

It does give more head room, but only if you 16 bit >> floating point, then equalize, then floating point >> 24 bit.

There is a program Ultimate Equalizer from Bodzio Software that sort of equalizeds on the fly. I was thinking if I converted to 24bit, then the there will be additional headroom for UE to bump up the low frequency so compensate for loudspeaker response. Am I thinking in the right direction?
