EAC reported it doesn't cache which is nice as well. Was very fast ripping my new CD in EAC, haven't tried it with dBpoweramp yet, as I prefer EAC.

I was able to find the king, plextor 230a, on amazon today.

Bit(understatement!) higher priced than other drives, but if this is the ultimate one that may best read damaged or scratched discs I'll have no regrets..

          Hi,
I cannot find a Plextor 230a anywhere. Can anyone comment on the suitability of a Plextor PX-L890SA?
I am just starting to buy the bits that I need to build a decent system and I really would like to get as much right as possible.

          Thanks for the help

As I mentioned, this is a good drive:

                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151176

If you are in the US I have an extra for sale.

Spoon also has a list of drives, though most of them are older.

Re: Best CD/DVD drive for ripping

I have a funny feeling that older drives are going to be less prone to disc defects. I've been using a BD player, and whenever I get lots of errors, I switch the rip to a iHAP322 drive, and the rip reports much less errors. Suspect this might have something to do with the laser heads.
